Au Sable Light Station is located within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore approximately 12 miles (19.3km) west of Grand Marais in Michigan’s Alger County. To access this Lighthouse, park at the Hurricane River Campground and walk 3.1 miles (4.9kms), round trip, on the Au Sable Light Station trail. Once you reach the lighthouse, go inside and learn about the history with a tour. The tour costs $3 cash so be sure to bring it along. The light station was built in 1874 and stands 88 feet (27m) tall. Climb the spiral staircase to top and go out to observation deck to really soak in the panoramic views of Lake Superior and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
