Inside the General Store you can visit the Tea Room for a piece of homemade pie or a light meal. Explore the building’s rich history and browse locally made gifts. Don’t forget to enjoy an ice cream in one of your favorite flavors! The General Store was built in 1871 and has long been a staple and historical landmark of this mining community. It is the oldest business in Northwestern Ontario. Their living museum features items/artifacts from the original silver mine, the General Store, along with information panels detailing the history of each. See displays with original miners helmets with candles, mine supervisor log books, clothing, boots, books and journals from 1871-1910, and letters of correspondence between Alexander Sibley and the US mining company.
