Lake Superior Starter Course

New to paddling? Interested to learn how to sea kayak this season? Well the Lake Superior Starter Course is for you! In this program you will learn more than what is usually offered in the Paddle Canada level one sea kayak skills course. In this two-day course you will learn valuable techniques to improve your paddling strokes, paddling skills and rescue skills, as well as journeying and seamanship.

Nirivia to Rossport

This mysterious remote group of approximately 59 islands was actually claimed as a sovereign nation in 1979. The only way to really understand this place is to visit it yourself and this is your perfect opportunity! The 5 day Nirivia to Rossport tour allows you to experience its beauty and grandeur.

Silver Islet to Rossport

This is the quintessential north shore of Lake Superior experience! An intermediate program designed to fully enjoy the wonders of the wilderness coast as you paddle from Silver Islet to Rossport over 8 days. It is entirely optional but opportunity to challenge the Paddle Canada Level 2 sea kayak skills award will be available. You will conduct both theory and practical skills at a relaxed pace during this paddling journey. Regardless of certification, it is a great learning opportunity to build confidence and competence in expedition paddling in more open water environments. You will visit amazing wilderness campsites and base for a few days at their domes in the island nation of Nirivia for one of the best saunas on the lake!

Slate Islands

Experience the wonder of this amazing island archipelago on this 6 day exploratory expedition by kayak. An isolated island paradise waiting to be explored. Situated 10-12 kilometres off shore near the town of Terrace Bay, the mysterious Slate Islands beckon on the horizon. The Slate Islands contain what was once the largest concentration of non-predated Woodland Caribou in the world and some of the most beautiful campsites in the region.

2 Hour Sunset Harbour Tours

There will need to be a minimum of 2 people to run the tour and can accommodate up to 10 people per trip. You will be provided with some basic instruction and then you will be taken on a tour in and around the Rossport Harbour and nearby islands learning about some of the history of the area while keeping an eye out for wildlife! You will enjoy a beautiful sunset and magnificent views down Nipigon Bay.

Half Day Tours

Rossport is hands down the best protected coastal wilderness paddling destination in all of the great lakes. Paddling in this northern island paradise is a fantastic wilderness adventure! Qualified guides will enrich your experience with stories of the fascinating history of this region as you glide through the beautiful waters of the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area.

Full Day Tours

Originally built in 1877, Battle Island Lighthouse stands as a sentinel over the open waters of Lake Superior at the eastern entrance to Nipigon Bay. The full day trip out and back covers a distance of 13.6 miles (22 kms) and is best suited for the intermediate paddler. The route from Rossport follows the western shoreline of Quarry Island and across Willson Channel to the protect waters in Chummy’s Harbour before crossing to Battle Island. Over lunch your guide will retell the tale of the gale force winds and storm surge that once generated waves so high they blew the windows out of the lighthouse.  After lunch take a short hike to the lighthouse for a tour of the ground and tower before climbing back into your kayak and making the return trip to Rossport.
