The Madeline Island Museum is located in La Pointe on Madeline Island in Wisconsin’s Ashland County. To get to the island you will take the 20 minute ferry ride from Bayfield and once you step off, the museum is just a block away. The museum houses changing exhibits showcasing the history of the region and island. From fur trading to Native American culture and the journey of the island becoming the tourism destination it is today. Check their website for current exhibits and events happen during your visit. A 70 seat auditorium often has historical and interesting presentations and holds special events. There are guided tours given every hour or you can explore on your own. The museum actually consist of two buildings, the original museum and the Casper Center. The Casper Center is wheel chair accessible but access to other historic buildings is somewhat limited due to the scale.
