Iona’s Beach is located 16 miles (25.7 kms) north of Two Harbors in Minnesota’s Lake County. This is a rocky beach on the shore of Lake Superior. At Iona’s Beach Scientific and Natural Area (SNA) there is a paved parking lot and boat launch. A path approximately 200 feet (61 m) from the parking lot will lead you to the beach. Here you will find a beach covered in unique smooth pink rhyolite stones. The stones are said to “sing” and if you listen in the right moments, you will hear them. As the waves gently roll into shore and unsettle the stones they tinkle like windchimes or bells. This is a great beach to find some peaceful solitude in an incredible environment, just watch your footing as you navigate along the stony shore.
