Duluth Harbor South Breakwater Outer Lighthouse is located in Duluth in Minnesota’s St Louis County. It was first established in 1901 to help aid ships coming into the harbor from Lake Superior particularly during the night or heavy fog. The 44 feet (13m) tall lighthouse stands at the end of a 1,720 feet (520 m) long concrete breakwater. The breakwater begins at the foot of the Aerial Lift Bridge when you cross over to Minnesota Point – Park Point. It is one of three lighthouses you can see from this area. Also viewable is the Duluth Harbor South Breakwater Inner Lighthouse and the Duluth North Pier Lighthouse. The perfect locale for lighthouse lovers and to watch water vessels going through the canal and under the aerial lift bridge. Parking is available within walking distance in the Canal Park area before you cross the bridge.
