The Boxcar at the Machine Shop Group of Seven Interpretive panel is located in Sault Ste. Marie in Ontario’s Algoma Country. Taking the Algoma Central Railway passenger rail service into the wilds of Algoma, members of the Group of Seven used a converted boxcar as a mobile studio and residence. A replica of boxcar #10557 was created for the 2014 film Painted Land: In Search of the Group of Seven. The Group of Seven was a group of Canadian Landscape painters from 1920 to 1933. They believed that distinct art could be developed through direct contact with the incredible nature of the Canadian landscape and initiated the first major Canadian national art movement.
