Black Slate Falls is located about 11 miles (17.7 km) east of L’Anse in Michigan’s Baraga County. This is the farthest waterfall upstream and is one of several drops within Slate River. The picturesque falls drops about 4 feet (1.2 m) over a 20 foot (6 m) wide slate rock formation. Also visit Slate River’s Quartzite Falls and Slate Falls.

Travel directions: From L’Anse, turn off Skanee Road onto Arvon Road and continue for 3.4 miles (5.5 km). Take a left and park near the wooden logging bridge. From there the falls can be reach by a short easy trail through the cedar forest.
