Black Beach is located within a mile (1.6 kms) of Silver Bay city limits in Minnesota’s Cook County. This is a sandy beach on the shore of Lake Superior. As the name suggests this beach is blanketed with soft black sand. There is a small gravel parking area with footpaths that lead you to the beach. The unique black color has remained from the discarding of taconite tailings into Lake Superior. Over time the beach has been restored to health but the onyx hue still remains there.
