Root Beer Falls is located near Wakefield in Michigan’s Gogebic County. This waterfall is tucked away on Planter Creek close to the roadside just beyond the trees. Once you get to this 8 foot (2.4 m) high waterfall you will immediately know how it got it’s name. Rich brown tannin water flows over a small rock ridge and creates almost a bubbly froth into the creek’s pool below.
Please be aware that this waterfall is located on private property. The owners currently welcome visitors but ask that you respect the site by staying on the trail, remaining within the immediate area of the waterfall, tread lightly and leave no trace. They also request that visits take place only between 10am and 5pm.
Travel directions: From Wakefield head north of M-28 for 1.3 miles (2 km) until you reach Wertanen Road. Take a left up this dirt road for a few hundred yards until you can see the waterfall through the tree on the left hand side.
