Great Sand Bay is located in Mohawk in Michigan’s Keweenaw County. This is a sandy/rocky beach on the shore of Lake Superior. There are steps that lead you down to the beach across M-26 from the wayside parking area. The beach is great for rock hunters and swimming. It has some rocky areas mixed with sand dunes and the bottom of the bay is covered in a bed of immaculate white sand. The wide sand bar provides a shallow drop off that aids in warming the chilly waters of Lake Superior with the sun. The beach and sand dunes stretch over a thousand feet and is one of the largest stretches of beach on the Keweenaw Peninsula.
