Diamond Willow Amethyst Mine is located in Pearl in Ontario’s Superior Country. It is a fascinating destination close to Thunder Bay. This family-operated mine has a rich history dating back to the 1960s when Gunnard Noyes began prospecting and mining in the area. The amethyst found here is part of the Algoman formation, early Precambrian granite, and the mine itself features trenches that are 50 to 75 feet wide.

Visitors to the mine can enjoy a unique experience of digging for their very own amethysts. The mine features open pits where you can hunt for these beautiful natural wonders. It’s open to the public from mid-May to mid-October, offering a perfect outdoor activity during the most popular Circle Tour months. The mine is known for its friendly staff, quality products, and great prices, making it a popular spot on the Lake Superior Circle Tour. Be sure to also stop in at their gift shop located on Highway 587 (Pass Lake Road) while you’re on your way to Sleeping Giant Provincial Park and Silver Islet.
