Amethyst Mine Panorama is located in Shuniah, 37 miles (60 km) east of Thunder Bay, in Ontario’s Superior Country. Enjoy guided or self guided tours collecting your own Amethyst – Ontario’s official gemstone. There is a series of interpretive panels that highlight the history, geology and minerology of the mine. There is a 5 acre area that is loaded with amethyst where visitors can prospect for their own. What you find is your to keep for only $4.00 a pound. The Welcome Center also has a gift shop with amethyst jewelry, gifts and handcrafted souvenirs. Pets are allowed in the facilities as long as they remain on leash. Amethyst Mine Panorama also has a giftshop within city of Thunder Bay.
