Black River Harbor Recreation Area is located 16 miles (26kms) from Bessemer via Black River Road in Michigan’s Gogebic County. This is a sandy/pebbly beach on the shore of the Black River that offers an access point to Lake Superior. There is ample parking at the Recreation Area and the beach is accessible by going to the day use area and crossing the wood suspension bridge and following the trail to the lake. Picnic tables are throughout the day use area as well as in the historic pavilion. The pavilion also offers restrooms and a fireplace, ideal for gatherings. Fish from the shoreline or utilize the free boat launch that is able to accommodate almost any trailered watercraft. The hiking in the area is rewarding with access to many waterfalls including Rainbow Falls, Sandstone Falls, Gorge Falls, Potawatomi Falls, and Great Conglomerate Falls.
