LaPointe Lighthouse is located on the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore on the end of Long Island in Wisconsin’s Ashland County. Long Island is a 3.9 mile (6.4km) long spit extending from Chequamegon Point south of Madeline Island. The lighthouse was built in 1896 and stands 65.5 feet (20m) tall. It is best viewed by boating to the island. The grounds are open though the tower is closed. There are boat tours that will take you by the island. There is an annual Apostle Island Lighthouse Celebration that presents opportunities to view the lighthouses on a cruise boat that departs from Bayfield.
