Caribou Island Lighthouse is located 40 miles from the Canadian mainland in Ontario’s Algoma Country. It is the most isolated island on Lake Superior. The lighthouse is actually located on a very small island 1 mile (1.6km) southwest of Caribou Island. It was first established in 1886 and rebuilt in 1912 to a hexagonal concrete white and red light tower that stands 103 feet (31.5m) tall. This lighthouse is only accessible by boat and is best seen from the water, the tower is closed.
