The Asaph Whittlesey Mural is located in Ashland in Wisconsin’s Ashland County. Ashland is know as the “Historic Mural Capital of Wisconsin” and the Asaph Whittlesey Mural is part of the Ashland Mural Walk. It was painted in 1998 by Kelly Meredith and Sue Martinsen and was the first mural painted in the city. The mural depicts the Ashland National Bank as it was in 1892 and Ashland’s founders. Appearing in the mural are Asaph Whittlesey, Edwin Ellis, Samuel Stuart Vaughn, Sam Fifield, Dr. John Morris Dodd, Emeline Patrick Vaughn and Chief Moses Buffalo. Guided mural trolley tours are available in August where you can see and learn about the history of each of the vibrant murals. There is also a Self-Guided Mural Walk Tour Book available at the Ashland Historical Museum.
