Glensheen is more than a historic mansion; it is a place where architecture, landscape, and stories come together. From its meticulously preserved interiors to its sweeping grounds and vibrant events, a visit to Glensheen offers something memorable in every season.

1. Step into History

Explore one of the most beautifully well preserved 39-room mansion built by the Congdon family in 1908. It’s an authentic look into early 20th-century life and craftsmanship. Every brick tells the story of Minnesota’s gilded age. Glensheen was donated to the University of Minnesota and opened as a historic house museum in 1979. Here’s the amazing part: the collection is intact. The top hat in the closet? That was Chester Congdon’s. The letters in the desk drawer? Those were written by Clara. The sheets in the linen closet? Organized by the Congdons’ 2nd-floor maid nearly 100 years ago. Because of this, Glensheen is one of the most well-preserved historic house museums.

2. Stunning Lake Superior Views

Set on 12 picturesque acres along the Lake Superior shoreline, Glensheen offers one of Duluth’s most breathtaking backdrops. From the estate, you can watch ships navigate the harbor, catch the changing light on the lake, or simply relax and take in the serene, ever-changing scenery, making it a perfect spot for photography, picnics, or peaceful reflection.

3. Architectural Masterpiece

Admire the mansion’s intricate details, from hand-carved woodwork and stained glass to original furnishings that showcase the elegance of the period. Each space reflects the craftsmanship, style, and lifestyle of Duluth’s gilded age.
