Huron Island Lighthouse is located on Lighthouse Island which is the western of the Huron Islands. The island is located 3 miles (4.8km) off the Michigan Coast near Skanee and 18 miles (28.9km) east of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The lighthouse was established in 1868 and stands 39 feet (12m) tall. The island is one of many islands that make up the Huron National Wildlife Refuge. The Island and lighthouse grounds are open to the public and can only be reached by boat. There is a marina at Witz Marine and Campground in Skanee. The dwelling and tower are closed and cannot be entered.
