Difficulty: Easy

The Flett Tunnel is located in Shabaqua 39 miles (63 km) northwest of Thunder Bay in Ontario’s Superior Country. This is a 3.1 miles (5 km) out and back trail that leads to the abandoned 630 foot (192 m) long Flett Railway Tunnel. This property is now under ownership of Wagner Forest Management and a permit is required to access it.

Travel directions:  From Thunder Bay go west on Highway 11/17 until you come to a Finmark Road, turn right onto the road. Follow Finmark Road for about 2.4 miles (4 km), take a left onto Flett Road and continue down the road for 1 mile (1.7 km). You will reach a dirt road (old railway bed) where it is recommended to only take off-road vehicles or walk/hike the road in and down through the tunnel.
